Welcome to the Lower School

The Lower School at San Marcos Academy offers a private, academically advanced, Christ-centered Elementary education for day students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Our passionate, invested teachers provide high-quality instruction that not only imparts knowledge, but also builds character and instills personal moral values. In the Lower School, parents can expect their child to develop to his or her full potential while becoming well prepared for future learning in the secondary grades.

The oldest private school in Hays County, San Marcos Academy is located on a 200-acre gated campus with first-class facilities. Drawing families from San Marcos as well as several other surrounding communities, the Academy is poised to serve the ever-growing population along the I-35 corridor as the private school of choice in the southwest region of Texas and beyond. Lower School Program Features

Curriculum

Diverse phonics-based curriculum, designed to give students the best possible foundation for middle school

Faith

Utilizing the Deep Roots Bible curriculum, instruction includes Bible stories and songs

Arts

Instruction in music and art, including Lower School performance opportunities

P.E.

Physical Education instruction offered once per week; large, fenced playground area is utilized daily for structured and free play

Safety

Campus safety features include front access gate, regular SRP* drills, PA system, cameras, and School Resource Officer (SRO) on duty daily (*County-wide Standard Response Protocol)

Field Trips

Field trip enriched curriculum as well as age-appropriate participation in school-wide activities, events and traditions at SMA such as Homecoming, local parades, festivals and performances

Accommodated Learning

Accommodated Learning Program provides support for students with mild to moderate learning differences or reading delays (additional fee)

After-School Program

Our optional After School Program provides care for LS students until 6 p.m. M-TH and 5:30 p.m. Fridays.

Health Center

Access to a school nurse at the Student Health Center

Applying for the Lower School

SMA welcomes elementary school applications for admission to our San Marcos TX private school throughout the year. A completed application consists of the items listed below. A personal interview with the parent(s) is also required prior to final acceptance. A student interview is not required but may be requested by the Admissions Committee.

Please call the SMA Admissions Office (512–753–8000) to schedule your parent interview for admission into our day and elementary school program. You may also contact us to request an application by mail.

Openings & Deadlines

Students at our Private Elementary & Lower School in San Marcos Texas (TX)

There is no priority deadline for PreK, and the admissions committee will meet to consider the applicant as soon as the application process is complete. Parents will be notified of the admissions committee decision, usually within one week.

Kindergarten applications for 2022–2023 are considered immediately. For students in Grades 1-5, the priority admission deadline is February 28, 2022. Students who complete files by February 28 will get priority consideration for spaces available and are notified of an admission decision on or after March 1. After February 28, San Marcos Academy considers grade 1-5 applications on a rolling admission basis.

When spaces in any grade level (K-5) are filled, additional qualified candidates are placed into a wait pool for consideration should openings occur.
