The Alumni Council provides the nucleus of active leadership necessary to accomplish the goals of the Alumni Association. Members from any class are eligible to serve on the Alumni Council and it is desirable for the council to be comprised of graduates representing several decades. If you have questions about the Alumni Council or are interested in serving on the Alumni Council, please contact Madeline De Long at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Homecoming and Reunions
Homecoming Alumni Reunion Moves to February
Out of an abundance of caution it has become necessary, once again, to cancel our Homecoming weekend which had been previously rescheduled for February.
These continue to be challenging times at San Marcos Academy. However, I am pleased to report that while we have seen some COVID-19 cases among our student body, the incidence has been low enough that we have not reached the threshold requiring us to suspend in-person instruction. The Academy continues to overcome obstacles and to create a safe and effective learning environment for current students through daily sanitization of classrooms and other areas. This process includes electrostatic fogging, and the use of ultraviolet lights in our air handlers.
The SMA Alumni Association leadership is concerned about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic upon our Alumni as well as the students currently enrolled at SMA. Unfortunately, with the post-holiday resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Texas, and in Region O (which includes Hays County) in particular, wisdom dictates that we cancel our February Homecoming date.
The Alumni Council anticipates celebrating Homecoming in the fall of 2021 with recognition of Golden Graduates from the classes of 1970 and 1971, and Silver Graduates from the classes of 1995 and 1996. In addition, every graduating class with a year ending in 0, 1, 5, or 6 will celebrate a reunion. The new Homecoming date will not be finalized until sometime in April or May when our football schedule is set.
My prayer is that each of you remains safe and healthy until we are able to meet again! If you have any questions about the SMA Alumni Association, please contact me at (254) 466-8217 or email me.
