Has the world gone nuts? If you look on television or any electronic device, there appears to be unrest. Acts of protest, violence, and media war are everywhere. Well-founded Opinions, researched public debate, and respectful discussion have flown out the window. People have arrived at conclusions and are speaking and acting before researching and trying to gather all the facts.
In the photo above, the dogs have concluded that the ball is good. They want it and will go anywhere to get it. Notice that the environment appears to be of no concern. Well, in a crazy way, I believe that is what our society is doing.
Public Debate: Never Take the Platform Unprepared
We are diving into situations focused only on our wants. We want to be heard. We want to be somebody. It makes a lesson that my father taught me to ring loud in my mind. My father told me, “never take the platform unprepared.” This is why is I shake my head at those who protest issues. Not that I am saying that we should not stand for what we believe in, but the majority of those in the news lately appear to have avoided their homework on the very issues they are shouting about.
What are we hoping to accomplish in the public platform? Are we trying to raise awareness and support a cause, or are we just causing more issues in the long run? Are we trying to educate? Are we trying to learn? What are we really promoting?
Public Debate: The World is Watching and Judging
I would like to caution those, especially our young people about a very real issue that can harm them later in life. As we live in this digital age and embrace the idea that a picture is worth 1000 words, we need to know that the world is watching and judging. Where you are and who you are with can immortalize your image in a world that you may not want to be associated with in the future. People are losing lives, jobs, being dismissed from universities, and losing relationships due to this factor. The world does not need, nor will it listen to your explanation. They will see, they will hear, they will judge. Will you weigh these thoughts with your future? Will you weigh the costs of your platform, or are you just going to dive in?
Christians, think, pray, listen, read, and educate before you make statements or take actions. We cannot be lead by a passionate topic that has no bearing for the cause of Christ.
