Fall is here and so is Homecoming Week! Read on for an outline of all the student events as we celebrate Homecoming.
The fun begins Tuesday, Oct. 12, as students return from their long leave weekend and enter the dress up zone. The Student Council selected themes for each day, and students will compete for prizes for best dressed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Dressing up is optional; those not participating may wear regular school uniform.
Hallway Decoration Contest, Thursday, Oct. 14
On Thursday, students will be allowed to decorate their assigned hallway area in Cavness-Reed Hall. The students will compete by grade (with all Middle School combined together) for the title of Best Hallway, as determined by a group of alumni judges. Hall decoration will take place during 5th, 6th, and 7th periods Thursday.
Parents who would like to see the results of all the hard work are invited to tour the hallways from 6-6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Bear Network Homecoming Social, Thursday, Oct. 14
The Bear Network (in conjunction with the Cub Network for Lower School) invites all SMA private school families in Texas to enjoy a Homecoming Social from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday in the dining hall or on the lawn outside the dining hall. Families can bring their own picnic meal or purchase a meal ticket to eat a great SAGE meal (hamburgers/veggie burgers with tater tots, watermelon slices, and brownies) for only $8. All family members (day students as well as adults and other children) would need a SAGE ticket; these can be purchased in the Sabre at any time next week. If you do plan to eat the SAGE meal, please help us with a head count by submitting this online form as your reservation.
Pep Rally and Bonfire, Thursday, Oct. 14
The Hoco pep rally will take place at 7 p.m. in the Jamail Gym. Come out and see the Homecoming King get crowned and support the Bear athletes! Following the pep rally will be the bonfire, across the street from the gym. You won’t want to miss this traditional event.
Upper School Homecoming Dance, Friday, Oct. 15
Because of the new date for the football game, the Homecoming Dance (originally on Saturday) is moving up to Friday night at our Texas coed School. The dance will be from 8-11 p.m. in the Dining Hall. Attire for the dance is semi-formal and light refreshments will be provided. The cost is still $10 per SMA student (or $20 for non-SMA students) and boarding students are free. Students can purchase tickets here until Oct. 15 at noon. Please select the correct option for each guest. Please note that Friday will remain a regular school day, with classes ending at 3:05 p.m. The rules for SMA Dances are posted in section 308 of the student handbook.
Football Game, Saturday, Oct. 16, 6 p.m. Kickoff
The Homecoming game, which was originally set for Friday, Oct. 15, has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 16, due to a shortage of available game officials. The Bears will take on the Round Rock Christian Academy Knights at 6 p.m. Come out early for pre-game ceremonies, to include the unfurling of the garrison flag on the football field. At halftime, see the Homecoming Court presented and find out who this year’s Homecoming Queen will be. Tickets for the game are available online at HomeTown Ticketing.
As always, the Bear Network sponsors Tailgating in the stadium parking lot before every home game. Join the crew, starting at 4:30, to enjoy food and fellowship. Bring an item to share!
Alumni Homecoming Events
SMA welcomes all of its Tx College Prep schools alumni back to the campus for Homecoming!
We will recognize golden Graduates from the classes of 1970 and 1971, and Silver Graduates from the classes of 1995 and 1996. In addition, every graduating class with a year ending in 0, 1, 5, or 6 will celebrate a reunion. See the Homecoming Invitation a list of all events.
